Oil painting - "The Canal at Lambertville," June 2004

The Canal at Lambertville

" x 16"

A very successful painting. We are looking south down the canal toward the center of Lambertville. One of my favorite restaurants, the Hamilton Grill, is on the left just past the house. This was executed in one 90-minute plein air session from 6:30 until about 8 0'clock one warm summer evening, and a short ten-minute follow-up at my home. This piece has a deeper color key than most of my other pictures because it was done on a board that had been toned with ultramarine blue. A few days after finishing it I took it and a few other pieces to the Riverbank Arts Gallery in Stockton, New Jersey. Susan Roseman, the proprietor, accepted a couple of pictures on consignment, including this one. It sold two days later.
