I seem to remember having been, in the past, much more diligent about updating this page. And it's not as if I do not have a relatively active life. Oh well -- let's try to catch up a little, shall we?
The event I mentioned last time, Jonathan Maberry's book signing, took place on October 22nd at the Sabine Rose Gallery here in Doylestown as advertised. What a great time! It was very well attended, and I did appear as The Undertaker, complete with flowing cape and wolf-headed walking stick (contributed by Jonathan himself). Toward the end of the night I even sat down behind the drums for a couple of tunes and received some compliments about my playing.
Halloween, as those of you in the Northeast may recall, was a delightfully temperate day, perfect for the trick-or-treaters. I walked our neighborhood in my cape, happy again to take on the character of The Undertaker (but minus the makeup I'd used on the 22nd).
The weather held, and the next day, November 1st, was even more lovely, if possible. And how fortunate for those assembled for the Princeton Paint Out at the Princeton Academy! This event was organized by my friend Sandra Tasca. She contacted a number of area artists, and some student classes, and early on Saturday we assembled at the Academy for a day of plein air (outdoors) painting. Here are a few pictures. The idea was for the artists to work all that day, completing at least one piece, and then offer that piece for sale at a gallery show beginning late in the afternoon. I'd never participated in anything like this before. I am pleased with the results, visible here -- all the more so since I sold the painting at the exhbibit!
But I didn't have much time to enjoy the show, because my band had a gig that night at a country club in Manalaplan, NJ -- so after just half an hour or so at the exhibit (after shucking my paint-stained clothes for a clean ensemble in black, complete with tie), I had to leave the Academy with my car full of drums and painting supplies.
I've been painting a lot lately. In fact, I have gone ahead and added a third page to my Art Gallery section, as I mentioned I would do in my last journal entry. I have completed some other paintings, too, but haven't had a chance to make pages for them. Soon, soon.
I am still not really doing much writing, but these things have a way of cycling back to me. For example, I have an article in the just-published Against The Grain, the superb Wallace Wood retrospective from TwoMorrows Publishing. The article was written some time ago, but it's good to see it in print at last, particularly amid so many other fine offerings about Woody's life and work. I'm proud to be included in the book, which is highly recommended for Wood fans.
And I will be giving a talk about science fiction at 7:00 pm on December 10th of this year at The Writer's Room of Bucks County, here in Doylestown. Drop by if you're in the area!
I'm still jamming at Cafe Classics, and I've started taking life drawing classes at the Mixed Media Gallery locally. Plus I am doing a private painting workshop with two other artists on a weekly basis. So, as I said in the lead paragraph, it isn't as if I don't have a relatively active life....
